Spot your next incident
before it happens

The Hotspot Heatmap combines five dimensions simultaneously — complexity, change frequency, silo risk, absolute churn, and file age — colour-coded across all modules. Critical areas are impossible to miss, and the data is quantitative: exportable, reportable, and actionable.

What it measures

  • Hotspot ScoreNormalised 0–100 composite score combining complexity and commit frequency. Files in the top-right of the heatmap are your highest-priority technical debt.
  • Absolute ChurnLines added + deleted reveal files being heavily reworked — a leading indicator of unclear requirements or architectural problems.
  • Complexity TrendTracks Cognitive Complexity over time per module. A rising trend in a high-churn module is a code-red signal.
  • Silo Risk per ModuleBus factor risk surfaced at a glance across your entire architecture — percentage of files owned by a single developer.
  • File AgeLegacy files reactivated after years of dormancy combined with high churn are a distinct risk pattern Calyntro flags automatically.

When to use it

Pre-release

Identify which modules in the upcoming release carry the highest risk — before the sprint, not after the incident.

Roadmap planning

Prioritise refactoring capacity where complexity and churn intersect — not just where developers complain loudest.

Post-incident review

Validate whether the affected module was already flagged as a hotspot — and which other modules share that profile.
